SC State Golf Teams in PGA Minority Collegiate Championship

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – The South Carolina State men and women's golf teams will be among 17 Division I teams from across the country competing in the 22nd PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship Friday through Sunday (May 9-11) at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla., will play host to the 22nd PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship, May 9-11, with diverse collegiate golfers from across the country challenged by the Ryder and Wanamaker Courses.

The 54-hole, stroke-play event continues to expand, with the 2008 field also featuring 10 teams in Division II, five in NAIA and eight in a women's division. Benedict is competing in the Div. II Field.

In addition, 175 participants representing 36 colleges and universities will compete in the largest field of individual contestants in the 22-year history.

Joining SC State in the Div. I men's championship will be Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Grambling, Hampton, Jackson State, Savannah State, Tennessee State, two-time defending champion Texas-Pan American.

The event is being played in Florida for the 11th straight time after spending the first 11 years in Cleveland, will be contested on the 72-par, 6,825 Ryder Course.

Senior Cory Jozefiak spearheads the Bulldogs with a 76.1 stroke average. Also on this year's squad are Aaron Robinson and Matt Gilliard, also seniors, junior Robert Biggers and sophomore Brennen Thomas.

Also in the field with the SC State women are Alabama State, Benedict, two-time defending champion Bethune-Cookman, Hampton, Texas-Brownsville and Texas-Pan American. The women will play the 72-par, 5,914 Wannamaker Course.

Freshman Honesty Biggers, the sister of Robert Biggers, leads the Lady Bulldogs with a 79.7 stroke average. Others making up the squad are senior Jennie McCollum, junior Danielle Williams and sophomores Addi McLaren and Geneva Mackey.
